Job Overview

X-Ray Reader - Aerospace Components Production - Swing Shift

Position Summary:

The X-Ray Reader will apply their expertise in non-destructive evaluation to ensure adherence to quality standards set by the organization and its clients. This role involves interpreting radiographic images and documenting findings according to established protocols, developing imaging techniques as necessary, calibrating equipment, and providing training to X-Ray Operators and Readers as required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct non-destructive evaluations using radiographic images to assess the quality of castings and identify necessary corrections for any discrepancies.
  • Follow established guidelines for radiographic inspections of castings through predefined technique cards.
  • Assess each image to guarantee consistent accuracy and quality.
  • Perform visual inspections of castings to detect areas needing improvement in casting or welding processes.
  • Identify common defects and collaborate with engineering or other relevant departments.
  • Authorize radiographic reports confirming that thorough and accurate inspections have been conducted and findings recorded.
  • Develop and refine imaging techniques as required.
  • Calibrate and maintain radiographic equipment.
  • Provide training and support to team members as necessary.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as needed.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to comprehend all relevant documentation and procedures related to part routing.
  • Capability to maintain high-quality standards while processing components at an efficient production rate.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal oversight.


Education, Certifications, and Experience:
  • Completion of 40 hours of classroom training in Radiographic Inspection I and II is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a radiographic role is required.
  • RT, CR, or DDA Level II certification from a previous employer, or eligibility for Digital Level II certification in Radiographic Testing (40 hours of classroom training plus 600 hours of on-the-job training), is essential.
  • Applicants should bring all relevant radiographic training documentation and certification records to the interview if selected.
  • A High School diploma or GED is necessary.


Mental and Physical Requirements:
  • Must possess visual acuity that meets testing standards and the ability to distinguish between colors.
  • Willingness to work outside the department as required.


Work Environment:
  • Work may take place in areas with elevated noise levels, as well as exposure to odors and fumes.


Work Schedule:
  • Swing Shift - Monday to Thursday ($1.00/hr. shift differential)
