About The Position The GIS Lead is primarily tasked with the creation, updating, and maintenance of system models, maps, drawings, and facility information utilizing GIS (Geospatial Information System) software (currently G-Technology) to ensure that related systems are accurate and reliable within designated geographic areas.

The GIS Lead serves as a subject matter expert, contributing to the development and enhancement of the Ameren GIS strategy, while providing leadership to implement this strategy within Ameren Missouri.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain overhead and underground maps and system model diagrams.
  • Analyze and interpret field plats, operational notes, electronic files, data, and other construction reporting methods.
  • Verify, prepare, and maintain system facility/asset information, including the development and upkeep of system records.
  • Engage in projects aimed at enhancing the Ameren GIS strategy.
  • Initiate and participate in projects to refine the Ameren GIS system model and associated applications.
  • Utilize GIS Software to post as-built changes necessitated by construction projects, maintain and update landbase (e.g., subdivisions, municipal annexations, roads, etc.), and coordinate the resolution of error reports including TLM, OAS, and ADMS.
  • Employ GIS Software to execute switching operations related to system modifications, as directed by the Distribution Control Office.
  • Gather necessary field information and measurements to resolve discrepancies in maps and drawings.
  • Track mapping work throughout the lifecycle of a project and monitor progress, including interpreting and posting as-built changes post-construction activities.
  • Review completed mapping and detailed drawings for quality, accuracy, and compliance with standards.
  • Create, maintain, and prepare specialized maps, drawings, or reports as required.
  • Provide maps and specialized drawings for division and internal customers as needed for design and maintenance, such as feeder and street lighting maps, real estate exhibits, and for periodic quality assurance and reliability inspections.
  • Maintain and update information in the Transformer Load Management system.
  • Lead and coordinate the development of procedures, processes, and methods for system record maintenance.
  • Manage special assignments such as change management, Continuous Improvement, software upgrades/enhancements, and mapping & design-related tools (i.e., tagging & numbering programs).
  • Train colleagues as necessary to perform the duties of the work group.
  • Act as the primary contact for mapping and facility information with other departments and external entities.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of sensitive information obtained in connection with Company business.
  • Facilitate the effective use of GIS and other mapping products by colleagues.
  • Stay informed about industry technology and trends to propose enhancements to the quality and accuracy of Ameren's GIS systems.
  • Be available for emergency call-outs, including damage assessment/inspection during emergency storm restoration events, which may involve considerable walking over rough terrain in various weather conditions.


Qualifications An Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in a technical field is required, preferably in Computer-Aided Design or Engineering Technology. A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. Proficiency with GIS, Microstation, AutoCAD, or other CAD-related software is required. A minimum of three years of experience in designing, analyzing, or interpreting construction drawings is required.

Experience in utility design, construction, or supervision, including distribution line, surveying, and estimating, with knowledge of utility standards, procedures, and distribution systems is preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate: Strong decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills. A valid driver's license is required. The ability to provide, properly insure, and operate a personal vehicle for Company business.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products is preferred. Project Management skills that require limited guidance or direction from leadership or experienced peers. A demonstrated ability to work within project timelines; resource allocation; organization/prioritization. The capacity to influence others through a consistently positive attitude and foster teamwork and cooperation. The ability to develop and mentor peers and colleagues.
