Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plant Food Safety Manager to join our team at Smithfield Foods. This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of food safety principles, regulations, and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement food safety and quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with USDA and FDA regulations.
  • Conduct regular sanitation checks and ensure that all food safety and quality assurance programs are functioning as designed.
  • Investigate product or process failures, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to minimize product exposure and production downtime.
  • Develop and maintain SQF Quality Plans, ensure compliance with SQF certification requirements, and communicate with relevant personnel to ensure effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF System.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to employees in the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Department, including interviewing, hiring, training, and performance management.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years' relevant experience in the food industry.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership.
  • Knowledge and understanding of quality assurance principles, food science, and meat processing, SPC, and statistics.
  • USDA/HACCP Certified and SQF Certified Expert preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, and ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
