Manufacturing Plant Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:
The role of the Plant Engineer is crucial for ensuring the effective installation and upkeep of manufacturing equipment and facilities, aimed at maintaining a safe, efficient, and cost-effective operational environment. This position is under the supervision of the Plant Manager and requires travel of up to 25%. Please note that this role is not eligible for hybrid work arrangements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Plant Engineer will function as both a Project and Process Engineer, providing essential support to the maintenance manager and the maintenance teams.
As a Project Engineer:
- Assist in the development of capital budgets by proposing specific projects, preparing appropriation requests, and obtaining competitive bids.
- Ensure timely and budget-conscious completion of capital budget projects.
- Oversee the installation of project equipment, ensuring all necessary training for operations and maintenance personnel is conducted, and develop all required Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Preventive Maintenance (PM) plans.
- Assess plant equipment needs and make recommendations to the Plant Manager regarding purchases.
- Collaborate with Division Engineering on projects requiring engineering support.
- Conduct annual facility audits to evaluate the physical condition of buildings, grounds, and equipment, estimating costs, determining timelines, and prioritizing projects.
As a Process Engineer:
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical failures and devise effective solutions.
- Develop and implement strategies for upgrading process control technologies.
- Analyze production issues related to plant equipment and recommend modifications to the Plant Manager.
- Design new equipment or enhance existing equipment to optimize plant operations.
- Evaluate new equipment for potential applications in the manufacturing process.
In collaboration with the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Department, the successful candidate will:
- Assist the plant purchasing agent and maintenance manager in procuring repair parts and services that meet quality, cost, and delivery standards.
- Support the maintenance department in preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives.
- Serve as a liaison for Plant Control Systems, including Fire Systems, Chillers, and Air Compressors.
- Mentor Electrical Apprentices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- A minimum of two years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in PLC programming, AutoCAD, and troubleshooting.
- Solid understanding of industrial electricity, including power distribution and motor controls.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills across all management levels, along with leadership and training capabilities.
- Willingness to travel domestically up to 25%.
- Physical capability to access all areas of the plant and lift up to 50 lbs.
