This position is crucial for forecasting and overseeing capital expenditures to optimize investment returns. The role also ensures adherence to Environmental Protection Agency standards, Good Manufacturing Practices, the Occupational Safety & Health Act, and other relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure environmental compliance and protect the company's reputation by adhering to all relevant regulations and promptly addressing any potential violations.
  • Prioritize employee safety by focusing on ergonomic considerations and enforcing safety protocols during project planning and execution.
  • Oversee the development, monitoring, and management of the annual capital budget, maintenance costs, and utility expenditures.
  • Direct capital and facility maintenance initiatives, ensuring timely installation, servicing, and repair of equipment.
  • Innovate and implement strategies to lower utility and energy expenses.
  • Facilitate the effective operation of the plant by optimizing the use of Engineering and Facility Maintenance resources.
  • Supervise the upkeep of plant machinery, structures, and other assets to minimize downtime and protect these resources.
  • Investigate and develop new processing methods to enhance product quality and production efficiency.
  • Set departmental objectives that concentrate on boosting production efficiency and product quality.
  • Assess equipment capabilities for new or modified factory layouts.
  • Analyze production and packaging requirements for capital equipment.
  • Contribute to the Food Safety and HACCP Team.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to implement process improvements (Six Sigma / Lean / Heinz Global Production System), including leading change initiatives and facilitating planning.
  • Engage in the QRMP annual audit and assist in developing procedures and corrective measures.
  • Accountable for the QRMP (Quality Risk Management Process) system and operational standards as specified in the plant accountability framework.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in plant engineering and project management within a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 5 years of comprehensive experience in capital project management from initiation to field implementation.
  • 5 years of experience with process and high-speed automation equipment.
  • Proven track record in managing long-term capital project plans.
  • Strong understanding of engineering economics and project justification.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices, OSHA safety regulations, EPA standards, and other relevant codes applicable to food manufacturing operations.
  • Working knowledge of boiler and compressed air systems to assess operational efficiencies.
  • Experience with maintenance management systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills through education, training, and supervisory roles in maintenance or capital project oversight.
