Staff Attorney I Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Staff Attorney I to join our team at the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy. As a Staff Attorney I, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional representation to our clients and upholding the principles of justice.
About the Role:The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for public service and a commitment to delivering high-quality legal representation. You will be responsible for conducting client interviews, researching legal issues, and developing a theory of the case. Your exceptional planning and organizational skills will enable you to effectively manage multiple cases and prioritize tasks.
Key Responsibilities:- Represent clients in District Court cases with vigor, effectiveness, and integrity.
- Conduct thorough client interviews and maintain accurate records of case facts.
- Research and write clear, concise motions.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of each case through discovery and investigation.
- Develop a theory of the case that aligns with the facts and the law.
- Will to try cases as needed.
To be successful in this role, you must be admitted to practice law and in good standing in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or comply with Kentucky Supreme Court Rule (SCR) (limited certification of admission to practice), SCR (attorney participants in defender or legal services programs), SCR (supervised practice), or SCR (practice pending admission). You must also maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
Working Conditions:This role requires working in both office and courtroom settings, with occasional travel required. The employing agency is responsible for ensuring the employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
Probationary Period:This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS.
