Job Title: Controller

At American Bank Montana, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial reporting for the bank, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant policies and regulatory rules.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and manage the central support department to ensure efficient and effective financial operations.
  • Develop and refine the financial statement process to provide accurate and timely financial information.
  • Assist with audit responses and information gathering, including internal audits, regulatory audits, and financial statement audits.
  • Implement controls using the COSO framework to ensure the bank's compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop budgets, forecasts, and financial statements to support business decision-making.
  • Coordinate the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end general ledger, balance sheet, and profit and loss closing processes.
  • Ensure tax returns are complete and filed timely, and optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships.
  • Produce board reports and oversee accounts payable process for timely payments and proper approval.
  • Review or prepare reports required by regulatory agencies and/or requested by management and Board of Directors.
  • Monitor branch financial performance and assist with evaluation of accounting systems and other systems used by the bank.
  • Assist with research and projects on a bank-wide scale to improve internal controls and process efficiencies.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years progressive accounting experience.
  • Preferred: Certified Public Accountant designation and 3-5 years' experience at a financial institution.
Working Conditions:
  • Work environment is indoors in a clean atmosphere with normal noise levels.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and pressure is required.
  • Exposure to a potentially hazardous condition – robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the risk.
  • Typical hours of work are Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • Partial remote/hybrid work available for the right candidate.
Physical Requirements:
  • Physical dexterity requirements include operating general office equipment such as telephone, computer, calculator, typewriter, photocopier, fax machine, and postage machine.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Physical requirements include: standing for long periods when providing customer service, sitting, walking, and must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. waist high and 20 lbs. shoulder high.
Travel Requirements:
  • I understand that even though my primary work assignment will be in my main office; I agree to go to any other location requested by management. I understand that such temporary re-assignment will require the use of my personal vehicle. If I am requested to spend the entire day at a non-home location, American Bank will pay for my time spent traveling which is inclusive from the time I leave my home to the time I return to my home. In addition, any time that I use my personal vehicle in such travel, I understand that American Bank will reimburse my mileage at the current designated IRS mileage reimbursement rate.

Pay Grade: 13

Salary range midpoint: $90,000/year
