The Knoxville Engineering Office serves as the engineering hub for the Nuclear, Security, & Environmental business, supporting a range of projects that involve government work across various sectors.
Position Summary:
This role is for an Automation Systems Engineer who will collaborate on diverse projects within the NS&E execution center team.
The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, a proactive attitude, and a passion for innovative design.
In this role, the engineer will produce standard engineering deliverables such as logic and functional diagrams, instrument data sheets, material requisitions, engineering specifications, and instrument lists, adhering to relevant procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.
Additionally, the engineer will assist in the development of piping and instrumentation drawings, the placement of control equipment and instrumentation within the 3D model, and more. Collaboration with other control systems engineers, various disciplines/functions, and clients will be essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review project design criteria.
- Design and evaluate Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) to incorporate control functionality for intermediate process control systems.
- Prepare system descriptions for Control Systems discipline and review inputs from other engineering disciplines.
- Develop design change packages.
- Conduct setpoint calculations.
- Specify instrumentation and control valves.
- Create instrument and control valve data sheets and material requisitions.
- Draft control narratives.
- Design digital and analog control logic.
- Prepare functional block diagrams.
- Manage instrumentation, valve, and I/O databases.
- Design and implement tubing and instrument installations.
- Coordinate the physical layout of instrumentation, control valves, control cabinets, etc.
- Design control cabinet layouts.
- Review supplier-provided data and documentation.
- Adhere to schedule requirements while ensuring high-quality work.
- Coordinate technical issues with other engineering disciplines and functions.
- Occasional travel to plant and supplier facilities may be necessary.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Must be a U.S. citizen, as this role requires a facility-specific clearance. A bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience, or 6-9 years of relevant work experience is required.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint).
