Position Overview

AECOM is looking for dedicated individuals with a customer-centric approach for the role of Safety Service Patrol Operator in Colonial Heights, VA. This position will report directly to the Safety Service Patrol Supervisor and Management Team, engaging in public and multi-agency communications.

Key Responsibilities

The Safety Service Patrol plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of motorists on the interstates by:

  • Establishing temporary traffic control for emergency responders and providing scene assistance.
  • Identifying incidents and disruptions in traffic flow.
  • Removing obstructions and debris from roadways.
  • Supporting reversible roadway and high-occupancy vehicle operations to ensure safe lane changes.

Additionally, the Safety Service Patrol assists individual motorists by providing:

  • Tire change assistance.
  • Fuel to reach the nearest gas station.
  • Jump starts for vehicles.
  • Water for overheated engines.
  • Access to communication for tow or recovery services.
  • Directions and guidance.

To ensure visibility and safety, operators are provided with highly reflective uniforms and operate specially marked vehicles.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or one year of relevant work experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to drive an AECOM vehicle while patrolling assigned interstate segments.
  • Successful completion of a State and Federal criminal history/security background check.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record over the past three years.
  • Participation in a monthly Motor Vehicle Record monitoring program.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and participate in mandatory random drug testing.
  • Physical capability to work outdoors in various environmental conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of driving experience.
  • Previous experience as a Safety Service Patrol Operator.
  • Knowledge of incident management techniques.
  • Experience with radio and telecommunications.
  • Willingness to obtain CPR certification.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Familiarity with basic automotive repair.
  • Positive customer service attitude.
  • Knowledge of the regional freeway system.
