Job Title: Contract Monitor Interstate

Join the Virginia Department of Transportation as a Contract Monitor Interstate and play a crucial role in shaping the highways that connect communities and drive progress across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

About the Role

As a Contract Monitor Interstate, you will provide daily oversight over contractors performing maintenance activities on interstates and major primaries. Your responsibilities will include monitoring work to ensure compliance with specified contract requirements, assisting with contractor compliance reports and planned work activities, and conducting field reviews assessing general asset conditions, status of work in progress, and final review of completed work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor contractor work performance to ensure compliance with contract requirements and contractor performance during significant events.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with contractors to review performance issues and request contractor responses.
  • Compile diaries and photographs to document contractors' work, adherence to timeliness requirements, quality of work, and safety of workers and traveling public.
  • Provide maintenance contract quality assurance by evaluating contracted maintenance work and operations management to ensure work meets standards set forth in contract and VDOT Road and Bridge specifications, standards, plans, materials testing, environmental, traffic, and work zone safety.
  • Serve as liaison between VDOT and contractor in monitoring emergency operations throughout assigned area.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of highway maintenance, construction equipment, materials, and methods.
  • General knowledge of VDOT's Road and Bridge Standards and Specifications, roadway maintenance and construction practices and policies, and OSHA and environmental regulations and laws.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and conduct meetings.
  • Ability to evaluate the work of others.
  • Ability to plan, monitor, and evaluate contractual personnel activities.
  • Ability to gather, analyze data, and maintain accurate records.
  • Experience in interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications.
