Laborer - Wage Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Laborer - Wage to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). As a Laborer - Wage, you will play a critical role in maintaining and repairing state roadways and surrounding right-of-ways.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform highway maintenance activities such as patching potholes, litter and debris removal, and tree trimming.
  • Assist with laboring on larger roadway construction projects, including culvert replacements.
  • Operate medium to heavy-duty equipment, including hand and power tools.
  • Perform manual labor, practicing safety at all times, and work as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Work outside of normal hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience or training may substitute for education.
  • Experience in equipment operation and performing preventative maintenance.
  • Experience performing roadway maintenance and/or construction activities.
  • Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Valid driver's license required.
