Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Director of Academic Excellence at Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. This key leadership role will oversee the development and implementation of education programs across all Clubs, ensuring that all youth are reading and understanding math on grade level and become effective, engaged, adaptive learners who are on track to graduate with a plan and essential skills needed for their futures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Academic Program Development: Assist in the professional development and training of education staff across BGCB sites, aligning national, state, local, BGCA, and BGCB education standards with BGCB education programs.
  • Program Standards and Policies: Develop, revise, and maintain program activity standards and relevant policies as they pertain to education staff and programming.
  • Summer Learning Loss Strategy: Develop and implement a strategy for addressing summer learning loss, incorporating literacy and STEM into camp programming across all sites.
  • Resource Development: Actively seek out new resources, such as program opportunities, to support education programs and staff across all sites.
  • Program Evaluation: Evaluate current and new program partners and offerings to ensure consistency and the highest program quality.
  • Partnerships and Collaborations: Manage relationships with literacy and STEM program partners, supervise the use and facilitation of online learning platforms across all sites.
  • Team Leadership: Serve as BGCB's Teen Education and School Age Education Program Team Leader, providing oversight of education programs, such as College Club, Power Hour, and Junior STEM.
  • Community Engagement: Advocate for BGCB within city and state academic communities, including Boston Public Schools and Chelsea Public Schools.
  • Event Planning:
  • Curriculum Development: Develop curriculum for summer educational programs, such as the Young Leaders and Counselors-In-Training programs.
  • Ecosystem Development: Work closely with the Chief Impact Officer and Chief Operating Officer to establish a new educational ecosystem for BGCB.
  • Partnerships with Local Colleges and Universities: Develop and manage collaborative partnerships with local colleges and universities for various organizational initiatives, including tours, tutoring, and on-campus enrichment.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Work with the AVP of Operations, Impact & Strategy and Director of Evaluation and Outcomes to assess member literacy in math, reading, and science competency annually.
  • Travel and Training: Travel consistently between sites and to activities to support direct service staff, participate in youth-related training, including mandatory reporting, boundaries, and behavioral management.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in educational administration, academic support services, or a related area.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in Education, Educational Administration, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field is preferred.
  • Skills: Proven track record in developing and implementing academic success programs, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, knowledge of current educational trends, best practices in academic support, and familiarity with data-driven decision-making.
  • Personal Qualities: Passion for education and commitment to the mission of the nonprofit organization, flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the organization, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines, proficiency in relevant technology and software used in academic support and administration.
Work Environment

This is a full-time position with a standard Monday through Friday schedule, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The pay range will depend on relevant experience and internal equity.
