Job Overview

WSP is actively seeking a full-time Senior Traffic Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role involves engaging in a variety of projects within our Traffic Engineering division, contributing to an organization dedicated to achieving client goals and addressing complex challenges.

Your Contributions
  • Oversee and conduct design and analytical tasks within a collaborative project team, including:
    • Design of Signing and Pavement Markings
    • Traffic Signal Design and Implementation
    • Electrical Design for Traffic Signals
    • Traffic Control and Staging Design
    • Transportation Planning, including conceptual development and feasibility assessments for various transportation infrastructure projects
    • Conduct Crash Analysis and Safety Evaluations
  • Produce technical documentation and reports.
  • Manage traffic operational analysis inputs for design initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on integrated project efforts.
  • Prepare and review engineering design plans, specifications, quantity assessments, and cost projections.
  • Provide technical expertise for transportation initiatives across multiple regions.
  • Uphold ethical decision-making in relation to company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required by organizational needs.
Who You Are

Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 5 - 7 years of relevant experience in traffic engineering design and construction.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is advantageous.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • In-depth understanding of traffic engineering principles, practices, and design processes.
  • Familiarity with traffic engineering software such as HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, and others.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Microstation, along with knowledge of AutoTURN and GuidSIGN.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work autonomously while mentoring junior team members, ensuring adherence to quality assurance and quality control standards.
  • Experience in fieldwork, including site assessments and traffic data collection.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and compliance with health and safety policies.
  • Flexibility to accommodate project-specific schedules that may extend beyond standard working hours.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).
  • Knowledge of industry guidelines such as MUTCD, HCM, HSM, AASHTO, and others.
  • Experience managing traffic engineering projects for small to mid-sized initiatives.
  • Proficiency in developing construction bid packages, including plans and technical specifications.
  • Experience in analyzing traffic patterns, safety assessments, and signal design.
  • Background in Highway Lighting Design.
  • Experience working with clients in various regions.
