About the Role: In this pivotal position, you will report directly to the engineering and maintenance manager. Your primary duty will be to oversee the daily operations and performance of the maintenance team during your assigned shift, ensuring alignment with both team and organizational goals. The ideal candidate will possess extensive industrial maintenance expertise, particularly in extrusion machinery and related maintenance tools. This experience should cover a range of areas including Electrical/PLC systems, Robotics, Mechanical systems, Hydraulics/Pneumatics, Welding, Machining, and Conveyor systems. A proactive approach to addressing maintenance challenges and a willingness to collaborate and learn from colleagues in their specialized fields is essential.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Champion and uphold the principles of ISO 9001 relevant to the maintenance department.
  • Develop work schedules for all personnel on your assigned shift.
  • Conduct daily start-up meetings (Toolbox Meetings) to address safety concerns and outline the expected workload.
  • Ensure strict compliance with company policies and safety protocols.
  • Engage in safety discussions, perform Job Hazard Analyses, and conduct Incident Investigations to foster a safe working environment.
  • Take charge of safety processes; execute maintenance safety program audits (Lockout/Tag-out, Confined Space, Fall Protection, PPE, mobile equipment, etc.).
  • Notify the Manager of any employee or production-related issues as they arise.
  • Directly oversee maintenance personnel, including mechanics, welders, and electricians during your shift.
  • Ensure that machinery operates safely and efficiently; maintain vigilance for hazardous conditions.
  • Assist the manager with various production-related tasks.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and reliability across the facility, maintaining and repairing heavy industrial machinery, including plant equipment, piping systems, and fluid power systems.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, inspecting, modifying, rebuilding, and maintaining plant equipment.
  • Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, scissor lifts, and overhead cranes as required.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and implement repairs or enhancements as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot issues on aluminum extrusion presses and auxiliary machinery, including PLCs, hydraulics, pneumatics, and motors.
  • Monitor equipment conditions and optimize planned outages.
  • Work to reduce MTTO (Mean Time to Occurrence) and increase MTBO (Mean Time Between Occurrences).
  • Manage the Production housekeeping and 5S initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Maintenance, Engineering, and Physical Distribution to maintain plant services.
  • Assist in maintaining an accurate electronic backlog of all Work Requests and Work Orders in conjunction with maintenance planners.
  • Establish work priorities for weekly and daily maintenance schedules and coordinate maintenance activities that impact production or quality.
  • Ensure all staff receive appropriate training to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Be prepared to work off-shift, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively, motivate, supervise, counsel, and discipline direct reports when required.
  • Participate in the hiring, training, and performance appraisal of employees, addressing any performance-related issues.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and collaborate with the Manager on wage adjustments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

What You Will Bring:

  • Ability to execute the Essential Duties and Responsibilities outlined above.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of journey-level experience as a maintenance technician specializing in heavy industrial machinery.
  • Prior experience in production and/or supervisory roles is preferred.
  • Capability to read and interpret manufacturing equipment maintenance documents (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings, blueprints, schematics, code requirements, service manuals, and manufacturers' specifications).
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and OSHA regulations is advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of electrical/electronic circuits, PLCs, wire installation/termination, combustion, power distribution, and process control systems is essential.
  • Strong communication and proven leadership abilities are required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively to minimize disruptions to operations.

This role necessitates active engagement in the plant, attending to industrial machinery and equipment as needed while providing guidance to maintenance personnel.

Work Environment: Responsibilities are performed in both indoor settings and the plant, which is an unregulated environment subject to extreme temperatures and high noise levels, along with other uncontrollable factors.
