Industrial Maintenance Lead

About the Role: In this pivotal position, you will report directly to the engineering and maintenance manager. Your primary duty will be to oversee the daily operations and performance of all personnel on your assigned shift, ensuring that team and organizational goals are met. The ideal candidate will possess extensive industrial maintenance experience, particularly in extrusion machinery and maintenance equipment. This expertise should cover areas such as Electrical/PLC, Robotics, Mechanical, Hydraulics/Pneumatics, Welding, Machining, and Conveyor systems. A proactive approach to addressing maintenance challenges and a willingness to collaborate and learn from colleagues in their respective fields is essential.
Your Responsibilities:
- Promote, support, and enforce ISO 9001 standards relevant to the maintenance department.
- Develop work schedules for all team members on the assigned shift.
- Conduct daily start-up meetings to address safety concerns and outline the expected workload.
- Uphold strict compliance with company policies and safety procedures.
- Engage in safety meetings, perform Job Hazard Analysis, and conduct Incident Investigations to foster a safe working environment.
- Take ownership of safety processes and execute maintenance safety program audits.
- Report any employee or production issues to the Manager promptly.
- Supervise the maintenance team, including mechanics, welders, and electricians on your shift.
- Ensure machinery operates safely and efficiently, remaining vigilant for hazardous conditions.
- Assist the manager with various production-related tasks.
- Maintain and repair heavy industrial machinery, including plant equipment and piping systems.
- Perform troubleshooting, inspection, modification, rebuilding, and maintenance of plant equipment.
- Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, scissor lifts, and overhead cranes.
- Carry out preventive maintenance and necessary repairs or enhancements.
- Troubleshoot issues on aluminum extrusion presses and related machinery.
- Monitor equipment conditions and optimize planned outages.
- Reduce Mean Time To Occurrence (MTTO) and enhance Mean Time Between Occurrences (MTBO).
- Manage the Production housekeeping and 5S program.
- Collaborate with Purchasing, Maintenance, Engineering, and Physical Distribution to maintain plant services.
- Assist in keeping an accurate electronic backlog of Work Requests and Work Orders.
- Determine work priorities for maintenance schedules and coordinate activities affecting production or quality.
- Ensure all staff receive appropriate training to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Be prepared to work off-shift, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
- Communicate effectively, supervise, counsel, and discipline direct reports when required.
- Participate in the hiring, training, and performance appraisal of employees.
- Conduct annual performance reviews and collaborate with the Manager on wage adjustments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
What You Will Bring:
- Ability to fulfill the Essential Duties and Responsibilities outlined above.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a maintenance technician in heavy industrial machinery.
- Previous experience in production or supervisory roles is preferred.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting maintenance documentation, including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and OSHA regulations is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of electrical/electronic circuits, PLCs, and power distribution systems.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively to minimize process interruptions.
This role requires active presence in the plant, addressing industrial machinery needs and providing guidance to maintenance staff.
Work Environment: The responsibilities of this position are performed in both indoor settings and the plant, which can be subject to extreme temperatures and high noise levels, along with other variable factors.
