Position Overview:

We are seeking applications for the role of Museum Safety Coordinator. This is a part-time, casual position offering a competitive hourly wage. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting a diverse community and ensuring a secure environment within the Amherst College Museums, which include the Beneski Museum of Natural History, Mead Art Museum, and the Russian Cultural Center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular patrols of public spaces, staff areas, collection storage, and museum exteriors to maintain safety and security.
  • Provide outstanding customer service while representing the museums and the college.
  • Ensure adherence to the policies and procedures of the Museum Security Department.
  • Assist in managing special events, ensuring compliance with occupancy limits and event guidelines.
  • Complete activity logs and incident reports, documenting occurrences accurately.

Work Schedule:

Evening and weekend availability is essential for this role. The schedule may include:
  • Thursdays from 4:15 pm to 10:15 pm (during the academic year)
  • Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30 am to 5:15 pm
Some weekday shifts may also be available, with a focus on candidates who can work evenings and weekends.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Completion of a pre-employment physical and lift test is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Administration, or Emergency Management.
  • Experience in private security or law enforcement is advantageous.
