Position Overview:
The role of the HVAC and Refrigeration Engineer Manager is critical in ensuring the optimal performance and sustainability of our HVAC and refrigeration systems. This position will focus on integrating advanced technologies and environmentally friendly practices while maintaining compliance with industry standards and enhancing operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and implement strategies to meet decarbonization and electrification objectives, including the incorporation of heat pump technologies.
- Guide and develop a team of HVAC and refrigeration professionals, promoting a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Responsibilities include hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
- Stay informed about the latest trends and advancements in HVAC and refrigeration technologies to ensure the organization’s systems are state-of-the-art.
- Oversee the planning and execution of HVAC and refrigeration projects, ensuring alignment with efficiency goals and adherence to budgetary constraints.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards governing HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Manage project budgets effectively, making strategic decisions to optimize resource utilization.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote initiatives that enhance efficiency and sustainability in HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Utilize analytical insights to identify areas for improvement in efficiency and carbon footprint reduction.
- Work with the building automation system to monitor equipment performance, predict maintenance needs, and manage energy consumption.
- Ensure that preventive maintenance schedules are accurately programmed and executed within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Develop training programs to enhance the skills of maintenance staff and maintain effective communication with building coordinators and university stakeholders.
- Coordinate with project managers on construction and renovation projects, managing budgets and timelines as necessary.
- Ensure that warranty information is accurately recorded and maintained within the CMMS.
- Perform additional duties as required to meet departmental and organizational objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or Refrigeration Engineering with a minimum of three years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree with five years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Extensive experience in the design, installation, and management of HVAC and refrigeration systems, particularly for systems exceeding 100 tons.
- Strong familiarity with heat pump technology and its applications in commercial settings.
- Proven project management skills with a successful track record in leading HVAC and refrigeration projects.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to HVAC and refrigeration.
- Exceptional leadership and team-building skills.
- Effective communication abilities for collaboration across various teams.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems and project management tools.
- Universal Refrigerant Certification is required.
- Knowledge of cooling tower systems and water treatment processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineering (PE) registration.
- Experience with large district cooling systems and industrial chiller systems.
- Familiarity with electrical safety protocols and utility outage coordination.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform manual labor in varying climatic conditions.
- Capability to lift heavy objects, with a minimum weight of 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work at heights and on ladders as necessary.
Work Schedule:
- Standard Monday to Friday schedule with the potential for irregular hours during emergencies.
