Job Title: Civil Engineer I

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer I to assist in the design, construction, and maintenance of civil engineering projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering principles, mathematics, and surveying, as well as excellent communication and project management skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in making preliminary and final surveys.
  • Reduce and plot survey notes.
  • Compute vertical and horizontal curves and earthwork quantities.
  • Prepare mass diagrams.
  • Assist in the design of retaining walls, bridges, culverts, pipelines, sewers, sidewalks, highways, and other concrete, steel, and timber structures.
  • Develop details, check computations, and prepare final working drawings, reinforcing steel details, and material schedules.
  • Assist in the preparation of specifications and cost estimates.
  • Conduct field engineering inspections.
  • Check and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Test construction materials.
  • Compute lot closures and areas.
  • Conduct land use studies.
  • Compute extensions and adjustments to a triangulation system.
  • Compile data and prepare maps.
  • Operate a vehicle to perform work-related duties.

Requirements:

  • Completion of 105 credits from an accredited college or university in an engineering program at the time of filing.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree in engineering at the time of hire.
  • Possession of a valid State of Hawai`i Driver License (Class 3) or any other valid comparable driver license at time of filing.
