Job Title: Civil Engineer III

Job Summary:

Civil Engineer III is a professional engineering position responsible for designing, constructing, maintaining, and operating civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will prepare designs, plans, specifications, estimates, and reports, and perform other related duties as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and assist in the design of reservoirs, retaining walls, bridges, culverts, tunnels, pipelines, sewers, sidewalks, highways, and other concrete, steel, and timber structures.
  • Compute grades and alignments, loading, and stresses; determine the size, proportion, and dimensions of structures.
  • Supervise the preparation of construction plans and drawings.
  • Assist in the preparation of specifications and contract documents.
  • Prepare cost and quantity estimates.
  • Check shop drawings.
  • Supervise construction and inspection activities.
  • Interpret plans and specifications.
  • Change and correct plans.
  • Keep records of work completed and materials used; prepare monthly and final payment estimates.
  • Conduct hydrologic and land development studies.
  • Check plans and specifications of buildings and structures for compliance with the building code.
  • Review test reports and soil analysis reports.
  • Operate a vehicle to perform work-related duties.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree in engineering.
  • Two years of professional civil engineering work experience.
  • Valid State of Hawai`i driver's license (Class 3) or any other valid comparable driver's license at the time of filing.
