About the Permian Basin

The Permian Basin, spanning West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico, is a vital oil and gas region in the United States, significantly contributing to the nation's energy production. It is responsible for approximately 40% of the country’s oil and 15% of its gas output, playing a crucial role in establishing the U.S. as a top energy exporter.

As a key asset for ExxonMobil, the Permian Basin accounted for about 40% of the Corporation's net oil and gas production in the U.S. in 2021, with substantial growth anticipated in the future. Production levels exceeded 550,000 barrels per day in 2022 and are projected to surpass 800,000 barrels per day in the coming years. The resources extracted here are transported to ExxonMobil's facilities along the Gulf of Mexico, where they are converted into high-value products such as jet fuel and lubricants. The Permian Basin business unit has also pioneered a plan to achieve net-zero Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions in operated assets by 2030, aligning with the Corporation's broader goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

Approximately 800 employees from ExxonMobil's Unconventional business line reside in the Midland, Odessa, and Carlsbad areas, all of which provide access to national parks and exceptional outdoor recreational activities. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in local events, enhancing community engagement through initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare, housing, education, and workforce development.
