About the Role

Summit Medical Group is seeking a skilled Lab Processor/Phlebotomist to join their team. This is a PRN time opportunity, working 2-2 1/2 days per week, Monday through Wednesday until noon.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to established policies and procedures, including OSHA and CLIA, and company protocols.
  • Perform phlebotomy for patients scheduled for laboratory tests in a timely and clinically appropriate manner.
  • Promptly attend to specimens received in the laboratory, processing STATs in a timely manner and delivering to the technologist for testing as soon as possible.
  • Notify supervisors of problems related to processing.
  • Answer telephone requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Process, order, and release tests in the laboratory information system (LIS) with minimal errors.
  • Label specimens accurately and route them to the appropriate laboratory testing area.
  • Prepare specimens to be sent to outside reference laboratories, including looking for additional specimens or an alternative specimen to be sent.
  • Complete testing issues and handle them appropriately.
  • Scan in specimens and requisitions into the scanning systems.
  • Leave work areas clean and organized, promptly cleaning up specimen spills according to OSHA guidelines.
  • Interact in a cooperative manner with supervisors, coworkers, physicians, and the public.
  • Adhere to all aspects of the corporate compliance program and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Participate in site-level Quality Improvement Activities, contributing to the continual evaluation of site performance and the implementation and measurement of improvement activities that increase the quality of care provided to patients.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) required; post-secondary studies in phlebotomy or clinical assisting preferred.
  • One year of medical office/clinical experience with phlebotomy preferred.
