Job Overview

Position Summary

The Fiber Optic Engineering Lead plays a pivotal role in the telecommunications sector, responsible for overseeing the design, planning, and execution of engineering initiatives that align with the strategic objectives of the organization. This position entails managing teams, developing efficient processes, ensuring high-quality outcomes, fostering innovation, and achieving corporate goals while upholding the company's core values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and oversee engineering standards and protocols for the Outside Plant (OSP) engineering division.
  • Build and nurture a high-performing team that delivers exceptional engineering solutions for clients in the telecommunications and broadband service provider industries.
  • Guarantee the precision, timeliness, and uniformity of engineered deliverables, including plans, specifications, contracts, schedules, project status updates, and budgets.
  • Develop, implement, and manage status reporting and internal controls for personnel and operational cost management.
  • Monitor and evaluate current industry trends and advancements within the broadband sector to ensure the organization’s compliance and expertise.
  • Stay informed on best practices and trends related to Fiber/Network Construction and Design technologies.
  • Guide and mentor team members to enhance engagement and promote professional growth.
  • Conduct site assessments as necessary.
  • Facilitate communication between Customer Support and Sales teams regarding network updates and future initiatives.
  • Determine optimal construction methodologies, including aerial, underground, or joint use.
  • Manage project budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and financial accountability.
  • Track expenditures and provide regular financial reports to management.
  • Prepare engineering documentation, permits, As-Built maps, and project reports.
  • Oversee the procurement of private easements/right of way.
  • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
  • Maintain communication with utility companies, as well as state, county, and municipal governmental entities.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications and Educational Background

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent education is mandatory.
  • A Professional Engineer License with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a related field (e.g., Utility Engineering, construction, Fiber, Telecommunications) is required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, solve problems, and work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in standard Microsoft applications such as Excel, Word, SharePoint, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience in the telecommunications industry is preferred.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure in both team and individual settings.
  • Dependable and adaptable.
  • Capability to work in both an office environment and field settings as required.

Additional Information

  • Travel within the state may be necessary for engineering requirements.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required based on business needs, client demands, and project deadlines.
