Job Summary

The City of Mason is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for protecting the community and enforcing laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol the city in a police cruiser, responding to emergency calls and conducting routine patrols.
  • Engage in emergency driving activities, including high-speed response and pursuit.
  • Pursue suspects on foot, using physical skills to apprehend and subdue violators.
  • Arrest violators of the law, using physical force when necessary.
  • Carry a loaded handgun and use it to defend oneself and others.
  • Rend first aid, including CPR, at accident scenes and emergency calls.
  • Read and study training materials, reports, and evidence.
  • Write reports, take witness statements, and maintain daily activity logs.
  • Observe events, persons, and circumstances, and provide accurate testimony in court.
  • Establish order in unruly crowds and small groups of individuals.
  • Work rotating shifts and communicate effectively using radio equipment.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years old.
  • Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and have a good driving record.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must complete state-mandated training and the City of Mason Police Field Training Program.
  • Must qualify with on- and off-duty weapons and complete additional training on electronic firearms systems.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to walk and run over uneven ground and lift, carry, and pull materials of varying types and weights.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and audibly into a radio microphone and to other officers.
  • Must be mentally stable and able to understand, interpret, and apply principles of police procedure.
  • Must have normal vision and color perception sufficient to identify traffic signals, license plates, and environmental details.
  • Must be a current certified OPOTA officer and meet the OPOTA physical requirements.
