HVAC Systems Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:
The HVAC Systems Engineer is expected to possess between 4 to 8 years of experience in a commercial HVAC setting, focusing on preventive maintenance and necessary repairs. This role requires applying technical skills to ensure the safe, efficient, and proper functioning of building systems within the assigned properties. The individual will work under the guidance of the Chief Engineer or Assistant Chief Engineer, taking ownership of team projects and being accountable for their actions and outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to all relevant codes, regulations, and company policies related to building operations and safety protocols.
  • Maintain a vigilant and safe working environment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all operational tasks, fulfilling work orders, and providing technical support to colleagues.
  • Electrical Expertise: Understand electrical systems, circuits, and safety protocols. Troubleshoot issues related to single- or three-phase AC circuits and assist in the preventive maintenance of electrical equipment.
  • HVAC Knowledge: Exhibit a solid understanding of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, including troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Life Safety Proficiency: Be knowledgeable about life safety systems, responding to alarms and conducting inspections of emergency systems.
  • Possess a basic understanding of mechanical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Manage inventory of supplies and tools, ensuring all necessary materials are available for tasks.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors as needed.
  • Engage in continuous learning through educational opportunities and professional networking.
  • Oversee the efficient operation and maintenance of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Complete tenant requests and maintenance records accurately, adhering to local regulations.
  • Be available for various shifts, including nights and weekends, to address emergencies and perform repairs.
  • Assist in implementing OSHA standards and practices.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficient in using tools such as ladders, hand tools, multimeters, and safety equipment.
  • Knowledgeable in operating heavy machinery, including chillers and generators.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with clients and vendors.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
  • Familiarity with computer technology, including email and spreadsheets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret technical documents.
  • Mathematical proficiency for practical applications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid driver's license with a clean record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in building operations or maintenance preferred.
  • Universal EPA Refrigerant Handler License.
  • NATE Certified HVAC Technician.
  • Refrigeration Operating Engineer or Stationary Engineer License.
