Position Summary:

The Culinary Assistant at Monument Bower Lodge plays a vital role in the kitchen by supporting the preparation and cooking of a diverse range of dishes within our restaurant. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and grow in a culinary environment, executing tasks with precision and care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver outstanding customer service and demonstrate effective communication skills.
  • Gain familiarity with the Point of Sale (POS) system.
  • Assist in the daily operations under the guidance of the Lead Sous Chef and Head Chef.
  • Learn to operate kitchen equipment and tools.
  • Develop basic knife skills and understand various cutting techniques and preparation standards.
  • Engage in training across different kitchen stations, starting with salad preparation, followed by prep work and dishwashing.
  • Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and proper food storage.
  • Adhere to all company policies and operational procedures.
  • Cook dishes according to established recipes, quality benchmarks, and presentation guidelines.
  • Maintain knowledge of cooking temperatures, soup and sauce preparation, and menu offerings.
  • Restock service lines as necessary and prepare workstations for subsequent shifts.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the kitchen area, workstations, and all kitchen tools and equipment.
  • Support other kitchen stations as needed and learn the workflow of each area.
  • Maintain good time management skills and understand the flow of kitchen operations.
  • Assist fellow team members in the kitchen and undertake additional tasks as assigned by management.
  • Comply with safety, sanitation, and security protocols relevant to the kitchen and property.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks as required.
  • Document production and waste consistently.
  • Participate in the training of new kitchen staff.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Show initiative in the development of the culinary team.
  • Assist in emergency and security procedures as directed.
  • Adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Strive to exceed service standards and goals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by kitchen management.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.

Qualifications:

  • No prior experience required, but 0-1 years in a full-service restaurant kitchen or similar culinary experience is preferred.
  • Food Handlers Permit is mandatory.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Basic knife skills are necessary.
  • Ability to read and follow recipes accurately.
  • Professional communication with colleagues and other departments is expected.
  • Compliance with dress code requirements is necessary.
  • Basic math skills for measurements and calculations are required.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull moderate weights (up to 40 lbs).
  • Physical stamina to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
  • Capability to bend, kneel, and reach frequently.
  • Frequent use of manual dexterity and motor skills is required.
