The Math Support Teacher is responsible for providing math instructional assistance to general education students. This role is grant-funded and aims to address math learning deficits resulting from various factors, including the impact of COVID-19, while ensuring that all students receive high-quality, differentiated math instruction from educators and environments that affirm, value, and challenge them. Responsibilities may include leading whole-group math support sessions, offering in-class assistance, conducting small group targeted practice, co-teaching in math classrooms, and providing additional instructional support to enhance the learning experience.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Duties
- Ensure that every student feels affirmed, valued, and challenged daily
- Develop engaging and rigorous unit and daily lesson plans utilizing provided intervention resources
- Incorporate core values into lessons and school practices, implementing effective classroom management strategies
- Maintain a productive, organized, and safe learning environment
- Regularly assess student work and academic data to refine lessons and instructional practices
- Provide necessary accommodations and modifications to support all students' growth and success
- Keep accurate student records and maintain strong communication with families regarding student progress
- Model and uphold all school policies within the classroom
- Serve as a positive role model for students
- Take ownership of your professional development (meet regularly with an instructional coach, implement feedback, engage in active practice, etc.)
- Participate actively in all school-wide professional development initiatives
- Collaborate with grade-level teams to address common challenges and implement effective strategies
- Provide constructive, solutions-oriented feedback to peers and school leadership
- Embody KPPS core values: Children First, Cultural Competence, Ownership, Community
- Enroll in or complete a teacher certification program (if applicable)
- Arrive at school by the designated time and remain until the end of the school day, including additional time for professional development
- Attend school functions outside of regular hours
- Contribute to the planning and execution of school-wide events
- Build strong relationships with students' families through various forms of engagement
- Perform necessary support duties, including supervision during transitions
- Chaperone field trips and other school-related activities
- Additional responsibilities may arise throughout the school year, communicated with ample notice
Qualifications & Credentials
- Possess a deep appreciation for the potential of all children
- Demonstrated ability to foster student growth and create an inclusive, rigorous learning environment
- Passion for mathematics and a commitment to ongoing professional development
- Ability to positively contribute to a school team and uphold core values, including a commitment to anti-racism and inclusion
- Preferred: 2+ years of full-time teaching experience in an urban setting
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Preferred: Pennsylvania State certification Level I or II; if uncertified, must commit to obtaining certification
- Complete all required background checks
