Job Description

Toole Design is seeking an experienced Planning Manager to lead our Seattle team in advancing cutting-edge transportation projects that prioritize social and environmental equity, Vision Zero principles, and quality of life. As a key member of our team, you will oversee the development of multimodal transportation plans and projects, manage and mentor staff, and ensure high-caliber work products.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of planners in developing multimodal transportation plans and projects
  • Manage and mentor staff, including coordinating workloads, supporting team morale, and ensuring professional development
  • Tap into technical expertise in multimodal planning to troubleshoot and coach team members on client and project management challenges
  • Partner with staff from various disciplines to integrate input from stakeholders and create award-winning plans and programs
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, urban design, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in transportation planning, with 5+ years of project management experience
  • Experience supervising a team, including hiring, personnel matters, performance reviews, and staff mentorship
  • Delivering community transportation plans, corridor studies, safety studies, or other types of multimodal transportation projects
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of consulting experience
  • A willingness to develop new techniques, lead projects in new practice areas, or oversee the use of new tools
  • Facilitating training for employees, clients, agency staff, and professional organizations
  • Strong leadership skills and experience supervising planners who are passionate about and great at what they do
