Objective:
The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for delivering comprehensive speech and language services to residents, encompassing assessment, therapeutic intervention, program development, documentation, and effective communication.
This role operates under the directives of medical professionals.Required Qualifications:
- Proficient in evaluating residents with communication and swallowing challenges.
- Capable of interpreting and conveying assessment outcomes.
- Skilled in formulating and implementing tailored treatment strategies.
- Competent in documenting care in accordance with established protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Judgment and Quality Assurance:
- Provides speech-language pathology services to residents and initiates referrals as necessary, adhering to departmental guidelines.
- Conducts regular screenings to assess the need for therapeutic intervention.
- Evaluates residents to gather essential data for treatment planning and execution, including specialized assessments as required.
- Monitors resident progress and adjusts treatment plans as needed to meet established goals in line with physician directives.
Communication:
- Interprets and shares evaluation results with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Engages in educational activities for residents, families, and staff.
- Provides in-service training for the care team and community education.
- Fosters positive relationships with colleagues, residents, families, and facility staff.
Planning and Organization:
- Develops individualized schedules for residents in collaboration with team members.
- Creates treatment plans by identifying issues, setting short and long-term objectives, and outlining methods to achieve these goals.
- Organizes the workspace and ongoing tasks to minimize delays caused by interruptions.
- Coordinates treatment strategies with residents, families, and team members.
Documentation:
- Records assessment results, treatment progress, follow-up, and service termination accurately.
- Tracks indirect and billable treatment hours according to departmental standards.
Physical Requirements:
This position is classified as medium duty according to the Department of Labor standards. The employee must be able to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects, equipment, and/or residents.
While performing job duties, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch; manipulate tools, equipment, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; lift; and perform medium to maximum transfer assists with residents.
The employee must possess sufficient visual and auditory acuity to ensure resident safety and assess their capabilities. This role is classified as Category 1 for exposure risk under OSHA regulations regarding bloodborne pathogens, necessitating the use of protective equipment.Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
- Successful completion of the National Certification Examination for Speech-Language Pathology.
- Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure.
