Your Role at SAM

As a SUE Utility Mapping Specialist, you will:
  • Identify various utilities in both rural and urban settings using geophysical tools, along with project field documentation and survey techniques.
  • Ensure all necessary safety certifications are obtained and maintained.
  • Oversee individual 2D QL-B (2DB) and 3D QL-B (3DB) mapping projects, typically involving no more than two independent teams.
  • Select and utilize specialized surface geophysical equipment to accurately identify complex public and private underground utility systems for 2DB and 3DB mapping initiatives.
  • Gather data and complete vault diagram forms for 3DB mapping projects.
  • Lead teams using vacuum excavation equipment to excavate and backfill test holes on existing utilities under various conditions.
  • Utilize total station survey equipment to collect horizontal data for 2DB mapping projects and QL-A test holes.
  • Employ RTK GPR survey equipment to gather horizontal and vertical data for 3DB mapping projects.
  • Use automatic or digital levels to collect vertical data from structures associated with gravity flow utility systems.
  • Compile data and finalize Structures Data Reports for gravity flow utility system structures.
  • Coordinate with clients, utility owners, and property owners in the field.
  • Collaborate with traffic control providers and other third-party services as needed.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should possess:
  • A High School Diploma.
  • The ability to travel for extended periods.
  • A comprehensive understanding of ASCE 38 guidelines and associated quality levels.
  • 4-5 years of SUE field experience is preferred.
  • Experience as a lead on SUE QL-A and QL-B field crews is required.
  • Project-level field supervisory experience on SUE QL-A and QL-B projects is preferred.
  • Survey experience is advantageous.
  • Military experience is a plus.
