Job Summary:

As a Senior Tractor Maintenance Specialist at J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc., you will play a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our fleet of tractors. This position requires a high level of technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advanced Technical Knowledge: Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of tractor maintenance, including preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and complex repairs. This includes but is not limited to the fuel system, battery, engine, drive train, onboard computer, transmission, air brake systems, and FHWA Inspections.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: May onboard and mentor new Tractor Technician trainees, act as team lead to include beginning or ending shifts, and participate in Original Equipment Manufacturing training for OE repairs.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot tractor issues, develop innovative solutions, and work independently under minimal direction.
  • Shop Safety and Communication: Understand and effectively follow all shop safety procedures and maintain professional communication with JB Hunt personnel and customers at all times.
  • Repair and Maintenance: Accurately perform the most difficult repairs to company and manufacturer's specifications, complete work orders, and exceed requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines.
Requirements:
  • Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age with 3 or more years of experience in Semi-Tractor maintenance and repair and/or training and/or military equivalent experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience; willingness to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed.
  • Certifications: A/C Certification, DOT-certified in FHWA Inspections and Air Brakes.
  • Tools and Equipment: Basic tools are required to successfully perform this role. These tools must be supplied by the employee in most locations. Employees without their own tools may obtain them through a toolbox purchase program.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively, ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move appliance up to 50 lbs), ability to multitask, ability to read documents and/or information in English, ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE), ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Advanced Skills: Advanced active listening skills, advanced computer skills and/or comfortable working with a computer, advanced deductive reasoning skills, advanced organizational skills, advanced problem-solving skills, advanced time management skills, self-motivation.
