Job Summary

Cary Medical Center is seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Specialist to join their Laboratory team. As a key member of the team, the successful candidate will be responsible for collecting biological specimens for laboratory procedures and assisting technologists in sample processing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect high-quality blood specimens from inpatients and outpatients with minimal needle sticks.
  • Respond promptly to computer orders and telephone requests, ensuring timely specimen collection.
  • Explain procedures to patients, addressing their questions and concerns in a compassionate and empathetic manner.
  • Order the correct tests as indicated on medical provider requisitions, ensuring accurate specimen collection.
  • Respond promptly to STAT and URGENT requests, prioritizing specimen collection and laboratory processing.
  • Collect specimens other than blood samples, such as nasal and nasopharyngeal swabs, for testing.

Requirements

  • No license required; on-the-job training provided.
  • Obtain Phlebotomy Certification within the first 6 months of employment.
  • CPR and basic first aid certification recommended.
  • High school graduate or equivalent GED required.

Work Schedule

The successful candidate may be required to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays, with the possibility of floating to other units to meet the needs of patients and staff.
