Position Overview
As a Welding Engineer at Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI), you will engage in comprehensive welding engineering assessments, evaluations, and make informed engineering choices regarding all facets of designated projects. This role encompasses a variety of functions related to the design, production, installation, and maintenance of equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and review welding and process documentation, standards, and specifications.
- Create, implement, and monitor welding development initiatives.
- Oversee welding engineering processes of supplier fabrication and processing protocols.
- Conduct analyses of welding conditions.
- Perform troubleshooting and failure investigations.
- Assist with in-service inspections and evaluations.

- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited institution required.
- A minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience.
- Security clearance is required; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is necessary.
- Master’s or Doctorate in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgical Engineering (with a focus on physical metallurgy) preferred.
- Experience in applying welding techniques in the design and fabrication of equipment. Familiarity with welding specifications and standards, as well as the metallurgy of materials for fabricating plant equipment or pressure vessels is advantageous.
Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is a project engineering organization dedicated to supporting the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. BPMI specializes in the design, manufacturing, and supply chain management of nuclear power plant components utilized in submarines and aircraft carriers. Additionally, BPMI provides upgraded replacement components for refueling and overhaul operations and assists in the ultimate storage and disposal of spent naval fuel.
