KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manage schedules for games and practices, and officiate games as necessary.
  2. Ensure that all necessary equipment is available before games and practices, and that it is properly stored at the end of the day.
  3. Possess a thorough understanding of game rules and responsibilities, and participate in sport-specific training as required.
  4. Monitor and address any inappropriate behavior.
  5. Promote participant safety and engagement in line with YMCA policies and procedures.
  6. Provide information to inquiries or connect with others who can assist.
  7. Establish and maintain communication with parents, players, and coaches.
  8. Enforce all YMCA rules and regulations.
  9. Stay updated on all changes to game and practice schedules.
  10. Maintain regular communication with the Sports Director regarding site requirements, parent inquiries, and issues.
  11. Respond promptly to all emergencies.
  12. Ensure cleanliness of facility locations.
  13. Exhibit a courteous, friendly demeanor and serve as a positive role model.
  14. Attend all relevant training sessions and meetings.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Understand the fundamental principles of sports programs such as basketball, baseball, soccer, football, and volleyball.

  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships by promoting caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility with staff, YMCA members, and program participants.
  • Ability to connect with children and parents.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and courtesy towards program participants.

  • Ability to assist in conflict resolution.
  • Serve as a primary responder in emergencies.
  • A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to travel to various locations.
  • Certifications required within the first week of employment: Bloodborne Pathogens, Defensive Driving, and Hazardous Communications.
  • Certifications required within the first 60 days of employment: YMCA-approved basic life-saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work is conducted in a dynamic indoor or outdoor gymnasium setting and may require travel to off-site locations.
  • Visual acuity is necessary for monitoring potential hazards for children.
  • This role demands high levels of alertness and concentration.
  • Must be capable of physically intervening in situations that may pose safety risks.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and judgments even amidst distractions.
  • Repetitive bending and lifting of up to 20 pounds may be required.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods is also necessary.
  • Effective communication skills are essential, including the ability to hear, speak, and understand others, as well as proficiency in using keyboards and writing instruments.
