Lead Grant Accountant

Overview:

The Lead Grant Accountant is tasked with ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial records related to assigned grants.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversees and conducts monthly financial reviews to effectively manage grant-related financial activities, ensuring compliance with funder and agency regulations.
  • Prepares financial analyses and forecasts for cost-based grants, collaborating with program teams to meet performance objectives for grants based on outcomes.
  • Responsible for the preparation and/or review of financial statements for submission to funding organizations.
  • Develops budget proposals, modifications, and renewal budgets.
  • Establishes and manages audit schedules, coordinating with funders for audits and preparing corrective action plans as necessary.
  • Maintains comprehensive and accurate grant documentation, ensuring the financial system reflects the most current information.
  • Processes requests for advances on new contracts and follows up on outstanding payments.
  • Reconciles receivables and income from both public and private sources.
  • Prepares and processes salary and other transaction allocation changes.
  • Trains program staff on the correct categorization of expenditures and ensures accurate expense coding.
  • Reconciles and closes grants promptly.
  • Prepares cash flow projections for service income.
  • Conducts cost analyses and projections for fundraising initiatives.
  • Ensures timely transfers of expenditures between funds, along with cost allocations and other schedules.
  • Participates in training sessions to stay updated on changes in funder requirements.
  • Assists in the training and onboarding of new Accounting staff.
  • Provides support to the Accounting Manager/Senior Director and serves as backup for team members.
  • Engages in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of one to three years of accounting experience is essential.
  • At least one year of experience in grant accounting is preferred.
  • Three years of accounting experience, ideally in a nonprofit setting.
  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related discipline is required.
Skills and Knowledge:

Essential:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Word is required.
  • The ability to operate under tight deadlines while managing multiple tasks is crucial.

Compensation: Annual Salary Range: $62,750.00
Work Schedule: 35 hours per week
