The role of a Family Service Specialist involves entry-level engagement in delivering, coordinating, and overseeing professional social work services aimed at children, youth, families, and adult special populations. This position focuses on addressing critical issues such as client abuse, neglect, dependency, antisocial behavior, exploitation, and family dysfunction, particularly within economically challenged communities.
Key Responsibilities- Client Advocacy: Champion the health, safety, welfare, and rights of clients and their families, facilitating access to essential services.
- Information Gathering: Conduct interviews to collect personal, social, and historical data, collaborating with clients and families to identify challenges and determine eligibility for social service programs.
- Service Planning: Formulate service or treatment plans with clients and families, establish goals and objectives, and link them to community resources.
- Counseling Services: Provide guidance to support social development and adaptation, evaluate progress, and prepare necessary reports and documentation.
- Crisis Management: Enforce court mandates, participate in judicial proceedings, and intervene in emergency situations as required.
- Emergency Response: Be prepared for crisis interventions, including potential suicides and assault cases, while coordinating with emergency personnel.
- On-Call Duties: Availability for emergency responsibilities and on-call situations is essential.
This position requires involvement in paraprofessional or professional health and human services, including needs assessment, service connection, crisis intervention, and progress evaluation.
Essential Qualifications for Family Service SpecialistCandidates should exhibit proficiency in the following areas:
- Minimum of one year of experience in professional health or human service roles.
- OR
- Two years of experience in paraprofessional health or human service roles, with an Associate's degree substituting for one year of experience.
- OR
- A Bachelor's degree or higher (or anticipated graduation within three months) in a relevant field such as Behavioral Science, Psychology, Sociology, or Human Services.
