POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Cybersecurity Assurance Specialist is tasked with safeguarding information and mitigating risks associated with the handling, storage, and transmission of sensitive data. This role is pivotal in upholding the integrity, availability, authenticity, non-repudiation, and confidentiality of defense-related information and systems, adhering to the Risk Management Framework (RMF) to secure and sustain the Authority to Operate (ATO).


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assess software and hardware during pre-acquisition stages to verify compliance with essential security standards based on NIST SP Rev4 controls.
  • Draft, review, and submit necessary cybersecurity authorization documentation to eMASS, including change requests, to achieve key milestones such as Interim Authority to Test (IATT) and Authorization to Operate (ATO).
  • Assist in executing cybersecurity authorization processes to align with current Cybersecurity and Information Assurance directives.
  • Continuously oversee system resources through automated scanning and implement reporting mechanisms to facilitate cybersecurity authorizations.
  • Ensure patch compliance using approved technical solutions, and collaborate with local administrators to address patching challenges promptly.
  • Implement security protocols and verify information system security requirements, including the execution and review of STIG checklists.
  • Independently create and maintain security documentation, including drafting and recommending guidance for Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Tactics, Techniques, & Procedures (TTP), and Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) Score Card.
  • Engage in regular briefings with stakeholders on cybersecurity status, preparing relevant materials, and working closely with government Cyber and technical teams to meet ATO conditions.
  • Develop and apply business processes to ensure adequate security measures are in place.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT:
A DoD Secret clearance is mandatory prior to commencement (Interim Secret clearance is acceptable).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience in Information Assurance, or a Master’s degree with at least 6 years in Information Assurance roles focused on RMF.

Certifications:
DoD 8570 IAT Level II baseline certification (e.g., CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP) is required. Must possess and maintain eMASS certification. A comprehensive technical background and expertise in cybersecurity implementation are essential. Proficiency in NIST SP 800-37, NIST 800-53, ICD 503, CNSSI 1253, and related guidelines is expected.

U.S. Citizenship is required, and candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity with cloud technology environments, experience with RMF 2.0 authorization processes, completion of ACAS certification training, and possession of DoD 8570 IAT Level III baseline certifications are advantageous. Experience with SAFe methodologies and a proactive approach to driving innovation independently are highly valued. Proven ability to effectively coordinate between technical teams and business stakeholders is essential.
