Position Overview

The BAS Critical Facilities Technician plays a vital role within the Critical Facilities team, focusing on the proficient execution of start-up tasks for mechanical systems and the evaluation of building control systems' effectiveness. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of building automation systems, particularly Direct Digital Controls (DDC) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), along with strong troubleshooting capabilities and the ability to implement field modifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out start-up tasks on mechanical systems in alignment with project specifications and documentation.
  • Analyze the performance of building control systems to ensure they operate at peak efficiency.
  • Utilize building automation software features effectively, including trend logs, alarms, reports, and user interface graphics.
  • Conduct point-to-point verification of DDC and PLC components, making necessary adjustments to existing programs.
  • Diagnose software, component, and equipment issues, offering practical solutions.
  • Maintain accurate and updated field documentation, including as-built drawings and project checkout records.
  • Support Project Engineers and team members with various field tasks and coordination efforts.
  • Manage time effectively to ensure timely completion of assignments within budget constraints.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in applied technology or a comparable combination of education and experience, including relevant military training.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting abilities, especially in mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Strong computer hardware and software proficiency.
  • Understanding of DDC Control Theory and Applications.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with electronics and basic electrical circuits.
  • Desirable computer programming experience.
  • Experience with building mechanical systems is a plus.
  • Stable local work history.

Skills and Expertise

  • Expertise in building automation systems, including Tridium Niagara, Distech, Alerton, ALC, Johnson Controls Metasys, Bacnet, Trane, and Schneider Electric.
  • Technical proficiency in software such as Bluebeam, MS Project, Trimble AutoBid, and Autodesk tools including AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks.
