Laboratory Information Systems Administrator

Acts as the primary database administrator and support liaison for the Laboratory Information System (LIS) utilized in the operational activities of the Clinical, Environmental, and Bioterrorism Laboratory programs.
Oversees all technical components of the laboratory information system by delivering specialized technical knowledge, project management, and coordination for Informatics Program initiatives aimed at enhancing departmental operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manages the daily operations of the laboratory information system, providing first-line user support and serving as a technical authority in software and hardware applications.
- Troubleshoots issues related to the laboratory information system, workstations, and web-based applications to ensure timely results.
- Serves as the main contact for data management processes among laboratory staff, vendors, IT professionals, and relevant stakeholders.
- Consults on laboratory data standards, procedures, and services using core competencies.
- Plans and coordinates quality enhancement initiatives in collaboration with the QA/QC coordinator through audits and other methods.
- Assists staff in adhering to security standards to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and accreditation requirements.
- Develops strong relationships with LIS software vendors for advanced troubleshooting and collaborates with various suppliers to establish and resolve instrument interfaces.
- Performs additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field.
A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in an IT role, specializing in IT integration or system design.
Required Skills and Knowledge
In-depth knowledge of laboratory practices and laboratory information systems.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with technical specialists and management, applying professional judgment to make informed decisions regarding laboratory information systems and practices.
Demonstrated experience with HL7 messaging standards.
Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
Work Environment
Standard office setting with the requirement to travel to various work sites as necessary.
