Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Information System Coordinator to join our team at Dallas County. The successful candidate will serve as the primary database administrator and support liaison for the Laboratory Information System (LIS) used in the testing and business operations of the Clinical, Environmental, and Bioterrorism Laboratory programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer all technical aspects of the laboratory information system, providing specialized technical expertise, project management, and coordination for HHS Informatics Program activities.
  • Manage the daily administration of the laboratory information system, providing first-line user support and serving as a technical expert in software and hardware applications.
  • Troubleshoot the laboratory information system, workstations, internet software, or web-based cloud information to ensure results are not delayed and submitted in a timely fashion.
  • Act as the primary contact for the data management process between laboratory personnel, vendors, IT professionals, and applicable stakeholders for the department.
  • Act as a consultant regarding laboratory data standards, procedures, and services using APHL core competencies.
  • Plan and coordinate quality improvement efforts in conjunction with QA/QC coordinator through audits and various other methods.
  • Assist personnel in managing all security standards to ensure the department is compliant with all federal and state laws and with appropriate accreditation agencies.
  • Work with various vendors to develop, establish, and troubleshoot appropriate instrument interfaces.

Requirements

  • Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field of study.
  • Three (3) years of professional work-related experience in an IT field with a specialization in IT integration or system designing.
  • Requires knowledge of laboratory practices and laboratory information systems.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with technical specialists and management utilizing professional judgment to make valid decisions on laboratory information systems and laboratory practices.
  • Proven experience in working with HL7 messaging standards.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, with a good driving record.
