Job Summary:

The Certified Medication Aide position at Cantex Continuing Care Network is responsible for administering oral and topical medications to patients/residents. This role requires performing tasks as ordered by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed nurse, and in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with any state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the "five rights" of medication administration.
  • Take and record vital signs of patients/residents as assigned or as may be required.
  • Administer PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.
  • Document reason for and response to PRN medications in a timely manner.
  • May dispense narcotics and must account for them under the supervision of the licensed (or charge) nurse per facility policy.
  • Properly secure medication carts/medication rooms per state and federal regulations and facility policy.
  • Attend facility education in-services.
  • May make observation rounds under the supervision of the licensed nurse (or charge nurse) on the shift.
  • May supervise nursing assistants/orderlies as assigned by the charge nurse (or charge nurse) on the shift.
  • Ensure that medication room, med carts and medication refrigerators are kept clean and well organized.
  • Ensure that any expired medications are removed for destruction per facility policy and procedures.
  • Attend Quality Assurance meetings per request.
  • Ability to function as a Team Leader/Role Model.
  • Has reviewed Cantex Continuing Care Networks Clinical Policies and Procedures for Abuse Prevention and knows the employee's responsibility to enforce it.
  • Responsible for assuring patient/resident safety.

Requirements:

  • State certification as a Nursing Assistant
  • Approved medication administration certification (where required)
  • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language
