Position Overview

Salary Range: $55,467.53 - $74,331.79

The City of Burlington Fire Department is in search of enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our team as full-time Emergency Response Technicians. Our department is dedicated to providing exceptional Fire and Emergency Medical Services to the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly to fire and emergency incidents.
  • Deliver Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) in accordance with established protocols.
  • Engage in firefighting operations and related duties.
  • Document incidents, patient evaluations, and treatments through detailed reports.
  • Utilize communication devices effectively during emergencies.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
  • Educate the public on fire prevention and safety measures.
  • Inspect buildings and businesses for adherence to fire safety regulations.
  • Facilitate training sessions in designated subject areas.
  • Assist with special projects including emergency preparedness and hazardous materials response.
  • Contribute to the development of departmental goals and objectives.
  • Operate emergency vehicles and equipment safely at incident scenes.
  • Participate in training drills, meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Provide input on personnel matters including hiring and performance evaluations.
  • Perform regular checks and maintenance on firefighting equipment.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisors.
  • May join specialized teams for Technical Rescue, Swift Water Rescue, or Hazardous Materials response.
  • Support other administrative functions as needed.
  • Carry out additional related tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Ability to meet the insurance requirements of the City.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in the fire service.
  • Required certifications include:
    • Wisconsin State Certified Firefighter I
    • Wisconsin Driver Operator/Pumper Certification
    • EMS License at or above Advanced-EMT (Wisconsin or NREMT)
    • Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Wisconsin State Certified Firefighter II (must be obtained within 18-24 months of employment)
  • Wisconsin Driver Operator/Aerial Certification
  • Wisconsin State Fire Inspector Certification
  • Wisconsin State Fire Instructor Certification
  • Wisconsin State Certified Officer Certification
  • Paramedic License (Wisconsin or NREMT)

Candidates will undergo a comprehensive selection process including interviews, written assessments, physical evaluations, psychological assessments, drug screenings, and background checks. Additional certifications and training will be considered favorably. Veterans are encouraged to apply.
