Job Description

Champion Petfoods is seeking a Quality Assurance Supervisor to join our team in Auburn, KY. As a key player in our award-winning company, you will contribute to our continued success by championing food safety and sanitation practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard audit requirements and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles.
  • Review and approve corrective action plans for resolution of audit non-conformance reports.
  • Conduct periodic internal audits to verify compliance with established program requirements.
  • Monitor and audit facility personnel to ensure adherence to food safety operating procedures.
  • Facilitate the maintenance of SQF and HACCP audit compliance systems and ensure their integrity through validation and verification.
  • Assist in the development and execution of verification programs required to validate regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety and HACCP programs.
  • Help define risk categories and ensure their prioritization in the development of processes.
  • Assist in the development of general food safety and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Act as a qualified consultant on all food safety-related matters.
  • Supervise laboratory personnel engaged in performing routine and specialized technical procedures.
  • Monitor quality control programs to ensure reliability of testing procedures and compliance.
  • Responsible for IQ, OQ, and PQ of new instrumentation and equipment set up in the laboratory.
  • Maintain an adequately supplied, properly cleaned, and safe laboratory to minimize test delays and errors.
  • Lead the company's sanitation and environmental testing program, enforcing policies and procedures surrounding food safety, HACCP, and GMPs.
  • Coordinate the activities of Sanitation Team Leads, ensuring facility compliance with food sanitation standards.
  • Audit effectiveness of the Sanitation program and maintain sanitation records.
  • Responsible for overseeing the maintenance and hygiene of all sanitation equipment.
  • Coordinate activities of the third-party pest control company.
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the pest management program.
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain the master sanitation schedule (MSS).
  • Compile required reports regarding inspections, sanitation non-conformances, pest control activity, and submit corrective actions when applicable.
  • Recommend adjustments to schedules, procedures, sanitation practices, and alterations to pest management plan to QA Manager as needed.
  • Develop and maintain policies and SOPs to follow regulatory and/or external food safety certification requirements, changes in processes/equipment, and/or facility/corporate direction.
  • Order, manage inventory, and ensure safe storage of sanitation agents and cleaning substances.
  • Manage costs and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain work hours and tasks completed in accordance with accurately noting spend to given budget.
  • Supervise various personnel functions, including interviewing, hiring, performance appraisals, and vacation schedules.
  • Design work schedules for direct reports to maintain efficiencies.
  • Maintain required documentation, which is current, legible, readily understood, complete, and accurate to ensure compliance with procedures and specifications.
  • Oversee various process improvement initiatives to better ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Assist facility operations related to customer food safety and quality assurance complaints and investigate appropriately when needed.
  • Responsible for developing training materials and providing training for plant associates in food safety systems, including HACCP, Good Manufacturing Practices, and Food Defense.
  • Develop and maintain policies and SOPs to be in compliance with regulatory and/or external food safety certification requirements, changes in processes/equipment, and/or facility/corporate direction.
  • Assist with all 3rd party and regulatory audits.
