**Summary**
A Quality Assurance Supervisor works with the Quality Assurance Manager and supporting kitchen personnel in the recognition, prevention, and alleviation of food safety hazards; effectiveness of the sanitation program; and ensures the flow and testing of raw materials and finished goods is completed in a timely manner.
**Responsibilities**
+ Ensures compliance with Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard audit requirements (i.e. Safe Quality Foods [SQF] certification) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles.
+ Reviews and approves corrective action plans for resolution of audit non-conformance reports.
+ Conducts periodic internal audits to verify compliance with established program requirements.
+ Periodically monitors and audits facility personnel to ensure all established food safety operating procedures are being followed.
+ Facilitates the maintenance of SQF and HACCP audit compliance systems and ensures their integrity through validation and verification.
+ Assists in the development and execution of verification programs required to validate regulatory requirements.
+ Ensures adherence to food safety and HACCP programs.
+ Helps to define risk categories and ensures their prioritization in the development of processes.
+ Assists in the development of general food safety and regulatory compliance standards.
+ Acts as a qualified consultant on all food safety related matters.
+ Supervise the work of laboratory personnel engaged in performing routine and specialized technical procedures, including planning laboratory work, evaluating work performed, and handling procedural and technical laboratory problems.
+ Monitor quality control programs to ensure reliability of testing procedures, proper function of laboratory equipment and compliance; prepare and maintain applicable records.
+ Monitor turnaround times and perform technical and administrative quality control checks on outgoing data to ensure accuracy.
+ Responsible for IQ, OQ, and PQ (Installation, Operational, and Performance Quality) of new instrumentation and equipment set up in the laboratory as assigned.
+ Maintain an adequately supplied, properly cleaned and safe laboratory to minimize test delays, test errors and mishaps by using good laboratory and housekeeping practices.
+ Lead the companys sanitation and environmental testing program, responsible for enforcing the policies and procedures surrounding food safety, HACCP, and GMPs.
+ Coordinate the activities of Sanitation Team Leads, ensuring that the facility is in compliance with all food sanitation standards.
+ Guide and direct Sanitation Team Leads during the disassembly, cleaning, sanitizing, and reassembly in accordance with the sanitation SOPs.
+ Audit effectiveness of the Sanitation program and maintain sanitation records.
+ Responsible for overseeing the maintenance and hygiene of all sanitation equipment.
+ Coordinates the activities of the third-party pest control company.
+ Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the pest management program with effective follow-up of any observations and recommendations made by the pest management company including but not limited to monitoring trend analysis reports, review of monthly/quarterly records, and accompanying the pest management technician to validate the service.
+ Responsible for developing, monitoring, and maintaining the master sanitation schedule (MSS).
+ Compiles required reports regarding inspections, sanitation non-conformances, pest control activity, and submits corrective actions when applicable.
+ Recommends adjustments to schedules, procedures, sanitation practices, and alterations to pest management plan to QA Manager as needed.
+ Responsible for developing training materials and providing training for kitchen associates/contract sanitation related to sanitation and food safety systems.
+ Develop & maintain policies and SOPs to follow regulatory and/or external food safety certification requirements, changes in processes/equipment, and/or facility/corporate direction.
+ Orders, manages inventory, and ensures safe storage of sanitation agents and cleaning substances.
+ Manages costs and makes recommendations for continuous improvement.
+ Maintains work hours and tasks completed in accordance with accurately noting spend to given budget.
+ Supervise various personnel functions including, but not limited to interviewing, hiring, performance appraisals, and vacation schedules.
+ Design work schedules for direct reports to maintain efficiencies.
+ Maintain required documentation, which is current, legible, readily understood, complete and accurate to ensure compliance with procedures and specifications.
+ Oversees various process improvement initiatives to better ensure ongoing compliance.
+ Assists facility operations related to customer food safety and quality assurance complaints and investigates appropriately when needed.
+ Responsible for developing training materials and providing training for plant associates in food safety systems including HACCP, Good Manufacturing Practices, and Food Defense.
+ Develop & maintain policies and SOPs to be in compliance with regulatory and/or external food safety certification requirements, changes in processes/equipment, and/or facility/corporate direction.
+ Assist with all 3rd party and regulatory audits.
+ Other responsibilities as assigned.
**Requirements**
Minimum of 2 years required in a Food Safety/Sanitation/QA-QC supervisory role.
+ S. Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field; commensurate experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
+ Working knowledge of GMP, Food Safety, HACCP, GLP, GDP, EMP, and Quality Assurance programs.
+ Knowledge of process controls and general food manufacturing principles.
+ Become a subject matter expert on State and Federal Regulatory programs (USDA, FDA and State specific) including Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
+ Effective written and verbal skills.
+ Experience in creating formal written protocols.
+ Ability to set priorities, utilize and coordinate resources, and manage projects from start to finish with little or no supervision.
+ Ability to effectively work on a team, both as a leader and member.
+ Proficient in documentation and workflow.
+ Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
**Working Conditions**
24/7 availability may be required.
+ Willing to work any shift as necessary.
+ Travel to off-site locations may be required.
Exposure to a pet food production environment that includes dust, noise, odors, and/or fluctuating temperatures.
