Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark is a leading non-profit social service agency in New Jersey, serving Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union counties.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Assistant to join our team at Canaan House, a permanent supportive housing program in Jersey City, NJ.

Job Summary:

Canaan House provides a safe and supportive environment for low-income, homeless individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS and mental health challenges.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with residents
  • Monitor the facility and grounds for safety and maintenance issues
  • Provide residents with essential supplies and support
  • Sort and secure donations
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions
  • Answer phone calls professionally and assist callers
  • Provide program documentation as needed

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED with 1-2 years of related experience
  • OR 3 years of experience working with the homeless population in lieu of a HS Diploma or GED
  • Experience with the homeless or HIV/AIDS population or formal education in social services preferred
