Job Title: Full Time Residential Assistant

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark is a leading non-profit social service agency in New Jersey, serving Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union counties. We are currently seeking a Full Time Residential Assistant for our Canaan House Housing Program in Jersey City, NJ.

Canaan House is a permanent supportive housing program that provides a safe and supportive environment for low-income, homeless individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS and struggling with mental illness and substance abuse issues.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with residents, providing emotional support and guidance as needed.
  • Monitor the facility and grounds for safety and maintenance issues, reporting any concerns to management.
  • Provide residents with essential supplies and resources, ensuring their basic needs are met.
  • Sort and secure donations, ensuring they are distributed fairly and efficiently.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions, staying up-to-date on program developments and best practices.
  • Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation, as required by the program.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; 1-2 years of related experience preferred.
  • OR 3 years of experience working with the homeless population in lieu of a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with the homeless or HIV/AIDS population.
  • Formal education in social services or a related field.
