- Kettering Health Troy, previously known as Troy Hospital, is a modern three-story hospital spanning nearly 150,000 square feet, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and a variety of outpatient services.
- Recognized by the American College of Emergency Physicians as a Level 3 Geriatric Emergency Department.
- Offers comprehensive services including cardiac testing, emergency care, intensive care, laboratory services, imaging, surgical procedures, and a medical office building for physician practices.

Role Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse employs the nursing process to deliver care to patients across various settings, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. The RN is responsible for their professional growth and practice within the legal scope of nursing. By utilizing organizational resources, the RN advocates for patient safety, including the delegation of care and participation in quality improvement initiatives. The nursing care provided aligns with the mission, vision, values, and philosophies of Kettering Health and its nursing departments.
The oncology clinic RN is tasked with delivering high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing hematological, oncological, surgical, and radiation therapies. They must develop a comprehensive understanding of oncological processes and emergencies, as well as educate patients and their families about disease management and treatment options.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
- Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Ohio.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred (to be completed within five years of hire).
- BLS certification required.
- ACLS certification must be obtained within six months of hire.
Essential Skills
- Certification in ONS chemotherapy and biotherapy administration (or to be obtained within six months of hire if working in an infusion center).
- OCN certification is preferred.
- Knowledge of and adherence to Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy/Biotherapy guidelines, with the ability to administer these agents in accordance with ONS standards (if employed in an infusion center).
- Maintain knowledge of drugs, chemotherapy, biotherapy, and immunotherapy treatments and procedures.
- Management of central lines and assessment of port function.
- Conduct ongoing patient assessments before, during, and after treatment administration.
- Ability to recognize patient symptoms in relation to their treatment regimen and other oncological therapies.
- Identify and respond to oncological emergencies appropriately.
- Advocate for patients and their families regarding cancer treatment and diagnosis, especially during crises.
- Communicate effectively with staff and interdisciplinary team members, responding promptly to patient needs.
- Assess learning needs of patients and families, providing tailored education.
- Utilize the oncology Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for documentation, order retrieval, and scheduling.
- Exhibit professionalism and a positive demeanor towards patients, families, and colleagues.
- Efficiently manage patient chart data within the EMR.
- Follow up on patient inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
- Educate patients and families on medications, treatment plans, and aftercare instructions.
- Foster a calm and supportive environment for patients receiving cancer treatment, ensuring a positive experience.
