This facility is recognized as a Level 3 Geriatric Emergency Department and offers a variety of services including cardiac testing, emergency care, intensive care, laboratory services, imaging, surgical procedures, and a medical office building for physician practices.
Key ResponsibilitiesCore Duties
The Registered Nurse (RN) employs the nursing process to deliver comprehensive care to patients in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The RN is responsible for their professional growth and practice within the legal scope of nursing. By utilizing available resources, the RN advocates for patient safety, oversees care delegation, and participates in quality improvement initiatives. The nursing care provided aligns with the organization's mission, vision, values, and the standards of the nursing department.
The oncology clinic RN is tasked with delivering high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing hematological, oncological, surgical, and radiation therapies. This role requires a deep understanding of oncological processes and emergencies, as well as the ability to educate patients and their families about their conditions, symptom management, and treatment options.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Ohio
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred (to be completed within five years of hire)
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification must be obtained within six months of hire
Preferred Skills
- Certification in ONS chemotherapy and biotherapy administration (or to be obtained within six months if working in an infusion center)
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification preferred
- Knowledge of and adherence to ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy guidelines, with the ability to administer these treatments accordingly (if employed in an infusion center)
- Maintain expertise in chemotherapy, biotherapy, and immunotherapy treatments and procedures.
- Manage central lines and assess port functionality.
- Conduct ongoing patient assessments before, during, and after treatment administration.
- Recognize and respond to oncologic emergencies effectively.
- Serve as a patient and family advocate throughout the cancer treatment journey.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members, ensuring timely responses to patient needs.
- Identify educational needs of patients and families, providing tailored instruction.
- Utilize the oncology Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for documentation and patient management.
- Exhibit professionalism and a positive demeanor towards patients, families, and colleagues.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within the EMR.
- Provide a supportive environment for patients receiving cancer treatment, ensuring a positive experience.
