Job Title: Production Lead

Job Summary:

Goldkine is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Production Lead to oversee the day-to-day operations of our cannabis production facility. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of Michigan's Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) compliance requirements and be proficient in using METRC for tracking and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cannabis Production Oversight: Oversee the production of prerolls, packaged flowers, and infused prerolls, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and adherence to product specifications and quality standards.
  • Formulation Knowledge: Ensure accurate incorporation of concentrates and terpenes into infused prerolls, maintaining strict control over formulations to meet product efficacy and flavor profiles.
  • Batch Management: Ensure all products are tracked properly through METRC, with accurate input on production batches and product movements, ensuring compliance with Michigan's CRA regulations.

Michigan CRA Compliance:

  • Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all production activities strictly comply with Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) guidelines, including but not limited to packaging, labeling, testing, and safety protocols.
  • METRC Mastery: Maintain accurate and timely input into METRC, Michigan's seed-to-sale tracking system, to ensure that all cannabis products are properly tracked from raw material to final sale. Oversee product data entry, transfers, and audits to ensure compliance at every stage of production.
  • Audit Preparation: Prepare for regular state audits by ensuring all compliance documentation, reports, and tracking systems are up-to-date and accurate.

Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement:

  • Lean Manufacturing Principles: Apply lean manufacturing techniques to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and increase productivity throughout the production process.
  • Problem Solving: Quickly identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, or quality issues, and implement solutions. Use lean tools such as 5S, Kaizen, or Six Sigma to continuously improve production workflows.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Conduct systematic problem-solving when issues arise, utilizing tools like FMEA or 5 Whys to identify and resolve root causes effectively.

MRP System Management:

  • Material Requirements Planning (MRP): Use MRP systems to forecast material needs and schedule production efficiently. Ensure materials such as cannabis, packaging, and concentrates are available as needed to avoid downtime.
  • Inventory Management: Track raw cannabis, concentrates, and packaging materials, ensuring accurate records in both the MRP system and METRC for full compliance with CRA requirements.
  • System Onboarding and Training: Guide the successful implementation and onboarding of MRP systems and train team members to use these tools effectively for planning and inventory management.

Food-Grade Equipment Expertise:

  • Equipment Knowledge: Manage the operation and maintenance of food-grade equipment, including grinders, cone-filling machines, packaging equipment, and infusion systems. Ensure machines are operating at full capacity and compliant with food safety standards.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Schedule preventive maintenance and perform minor troubleshooting to ensure equipment remains in optimal working condition. Collaborate with the maintenance team to resolve any major issues efficiently.

Quality Control and Compliance:

  • Cannabis Quality Control: Oversee all quality checks to ensure that products meet required potency, terpene profiles, and visual quality. Ensure that every batch passes testing standards required by Michigan law.
  • Infusion and Terpene Integrity: Guarantee the accurate formulation of infused prerolls, ensuring correct dosage of concentrates and terpenes for a consistent consumer experience.
  • Compliance: Maintain detailed records of all production activities and ensure adherence to all CRA regulations, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Ensure that all compliance-related information is accurately logged in METRC.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Team Supervision: Lead, mentor, and develop production team members, providing training on MRP, METRC, and CRA compliance standards. Ensure that every team member understands and follows production processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Collaborate with procurement, inventory management, R&D, and quality control teams to align on production goals and ensure seamless operations.
  • Safety and Compliance Training: Regularly train staff on safety protocols, including the use of PPE, food safety standards, and cannabis-specific regulations.

Key Skills and Attributes:

  • Compliance: Comprehensive understanding of Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) guidelines and ability to ensure full compliance within the production environment.
  • METRC Proficiency: Expert in using METRC for seed-to-sale tracking, product data entry, and compliance reporting. Able to train team members and troubleshoot issues within the system.

Lean Manufacturing & Problem Solving:

  • Lean Principles: Strong grasp of lean manufacturing techniques to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and continuously improve processes.
  • Problem Solving: Proven ability to quickly identify and resolve production issues through analytical and systematic approaches like FMEA or 5 Whys.

Technical Expertise in Cannabis Production:

  • Food-Grade Equipment: Extensive experience working with food-grade cannabis production equipment, with the ability to perform basic troubleshooting and ensure machines are properly maintained.
  • Infused Products: Knowledgeable in the precise infusion of terpenes and concentrates into prerolls, ensuring consistent quality and product integrity.

MRP and Inventory Management:

  • MRP Systems: Proficient in using MRP systems for production scheduling, inventory tracking, and materials management. Able to onboard and train teams in these systems.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: Use data from MRP, METRC, and production metrics to make informed decisions regarding resource allocation, process adjustments, and inventory management.

Leadership & Communication:

  • Team Leadership: Strong ability to lead production teams, set clear expectations, and provide training on regulatory requirements, including CRA and METRC compliance.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Excellent communication skills to collaborate with multiple departments, ensuring alignment on production goals and regulatory requirements.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • CRA & METRC Compliance: Percentage of accurate, timely reports and data entries in METRC, passing state audits without violations.
  • Production Efficiency: Ratio of planned vs. actual output and adherence to production schedules.
  • Downtime Reduction: Frequency and duration of machine downtime, with prompt resolution of equipment issues.
  • Quality Control: Rate of product passing quality checks without defects or regulatory issues.
  • Inventory Accuracy: Consistent alignment between inventory levels and production needs, ensuring no shortages or overstock.
