Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and direct the operation of the College of Engineering Machine Shop
  • Supervise all users of the shop, including senior staff machinists, part-time machinists, and students
  • Schedule work, assign job duties, and provide instruction for safe work practices
  • Estimate job labor and materials costs for recharges
  • Purchase stock, tooling, and capital equipment
  • Design and construct components, laboratory equipment, and research apparatus using CAD/CAM software
  • Perform all set-ups, programming, and operation of manual and computer-controlled machines
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience/training
  • 7-9 years of fabrication and design experience
  • 4-6 years of reading blueprints and interpreting sketches
  • Ability to teach others novel information in an effective, patient manner
  • Effective, respectful, and clear communication skills
  • Ability to lead and influence staff, providing effective direction and guidance
  • Solid knowledge of CAD/CAM
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4-6 years of Machine Shop supervision
  • Analytical and judgment skills needed to problem solve
  • Ability to organize work efficiently
