Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Paralegal to join our Consumer Protection Section in the Virginia Office of the Attorney General. As a key member of our team, you will provide critical support to attorneys in the Charitable Solicitations and Deceptive Conduct Unit, and other areas of the Consumer Protection Section as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage documents and evidence, including Bates-stamping, indexing, reviewing, coding, scanning, copying, and filing.
  • Assist in preparation of responses to discovery requests.
  • Conduct telephone interviews of consumers and other witnesses, and draft memoranda documenting interviews.
  • Assist in preparation for hearings and trials, including exhibits, witness subpoenas, and witness and trial notebooks.
  • Conduct public, government, and proprietary records searches to locate witnesses and obtain information regarding investigative targets or defendants.
  • Manage investigation and litigation files, including entry of information into case management system, calculation of litigation deadlines, and maintenance of pleadings index and other case files.
  • Handle distribution of restitution to consumers, including mailing of letters and checks, locating missing consumers, reviewing compliance reports, and working with third-party administrators.
  • Monitor and summarize multistate working group conference calls.
Requirements
  • Competent working knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, case management systems, and document management systems.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in time management, ability to work independently and as a team member, and ability to organize and analyze large quantities of written and verbal information.
  • Litigation paralegal experience of 5 to 10 years is preferred.
  • A bachelor's degree or a paralegal certificate is required.
